School Security and Safety Legislative Research
Every state approaches K-12 school security differently. There is a nationwide lack of consistency and direction regarding school security legislation. This lack of consistency creates gaps in school safety and security as well as creating confusion for security practitioners, school officials, and parents.
We plan to develop a research team who will create and maintain a public access compendium of K-12 school security legislation. On a regular basis, we plan to analyze the hundreds of active statutes and bills and publish the results in a State Law Report Card and other related reports. To date, volunteers have collected information on approximately 200 laws and 420 bills for this project.
